Assessment of Eligibility for Diving Certificates of Competence

Assessment of Eligibility for Diving Certificates of Competence

MTCS (UK) Ltd specialise in the Certification of Competence in the offshore energy sector, enabling international operating companies to demonstrate a competent workforce.

MTCS have become an industry-leader for assisting in the development and certification of manpower and our globally trusted certification covers a wide range of job roles in the subsea sector including ROV, AUV, Hydrographic Survey and Commercial Diving.

In response to a number of recent enquiries, MTCS would like to clarify the requirements for Certificates of Competence for Commercial Diving personnel.

Certificates of Competence for all Diving Grades within the MTCS Competence Scheme can now only be achieved by Grade Assessment (GA).

The Grade Assessment process requires candidates to undertake workplace assessment by completing units of competence in areas including safety, emergency response, teamwork, technical and operational.

Submission of these units will enable MTCS to independently verify the assessment of your performance and knowledge.

Before completing the Grade Assessment, individuals must demonstrate that they satisfy the IMCA entry criteria for the specific role.

For this reason, MTCS have introduced the ‘Assessment of Eligibility’ which confirms that the individual has satisfied the entry criteria for a specific role and is then eligible to undergo assessment within the Grade Assessment program.

To illustrate further, a typical example may include someone wishing to gain a Certificate of Competence as an Air Diving Supervisor.

First, they will need to demonstrate that they have successfully been trained, qualified and have sufficient experience in the lower role of Air Diver.

Next, the IMCA entry criteria requires them to sit and pass exams for an Air Diving Supervisor prior to them being eligible for an MTCS Grade Assessment in this role.

The MTCS ‘Assessment of Eligibility’ process requires individuals to provide the following evidence:

  • Qualifications
  • Training Certificates
  • Operational Experience
  • Records of Competence
  • Survival and Medical Certificates

Process Steps and Prices:

  1. Assessment of Eligibility (£50.00 inc. VAT)
This part must be completed within 12 months of purchase
  2. Diving Grade Assessment (£300.00 inc. VAT including Certification)
The diving grade assessment must be completed within 12 months of having completed the Assessment of Eligibility
