Whilst many organisations have recognised the need for training their personnel in High Voltage Electrical Safety, there is often no way to accurately measure of the effectiveness of this training and, unfortunately, it is only when a workplace incident occurs that the competence of employees or contractors is properly addressed.
What does this mean in practice?
In this instance, effectiveness means: Are the processes and procedures discussed in the training embedded in the daily activities of employees or contractors working on-site?
MTCS recognise that training alone may not embed and ensure a culture of safe working practices and, in response to this, now offer a Workplace High Voltage Electrical Safety Audit program that reviews current approved activities and identifies areas where improvements may be made.
The MTCS Workplace High Voltage Electrical Safety Audit is a natural follow-on to training as it ensures that the concepts discussed on the course are embedded into the daily activities of the company.
Any organisation has a duty to ensure systems and procedures discussed during training are fully implemented at the worksite, and the High Voltage Audit looks into the detail of how this is done.
The Audit takes a snapshot of safe working practice within a company’s daily activities and may identify and highlight areas where improvements can be made to ensure they are compliant with guidelines in HSG85 Electricity at Work: Safe Working Practices.
Additionally, the Audit ensures that employees and contractors are aware of their duties and responsibilities under the Electricity at Work Regulations and, most importantly, it assists managers in identifying areas to improve.
