Introduction
Course Overview
Our course meets the criteria set down by the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) within guidance document C007.
MTCS (UK) Ltd have also been approved as an assessment centre by EAL – the specialist awarding organisation for engineering and manufacturing. This means that candidates are eligible for internationally recognised external assessment qualifications.
This skills assessor training course provides:
- The opportunity to earn a formal qualification in skills assessment for company personnel
- The ability for experienced and competent personnel within your organisation to assess workplace competence to IMCA C007 guidelines
- An insight into how competence assessment can be implemented offshore
Candidate Requirements
Candidates for the course must be occupationally competent in the roles they will be required to assess. They must also work in a supervisory role.
Examples include:
- ROV/Diving Supervisors
- Superintendents
- Party Chiefs/Senior Grade in a specific survey related discipline
- Masters/Chief Mate/Chief Engineers
- Offshore Managers

Assessment
Following completion of the classroom portion, candidates are required to carry out some assessments in the workplace. Evidence of these assessments must be uploaded to MTCS Online for final verification and certificate award processes will not start until verification.
Certification
A Certificate of Attendance is given out at completion of the classroom element. The formal qualification as a Skills Assessor also requires successful completion of workplace assessments and underpinning knowledge questions.
Course Delivery
This course can be delivered at our UK training facility at the Port of Blyth. Delivery at client facilities is also an option and we recommend you contact MTCS directly to discuss your specific requirements

Notes
A qualified Skills Assessor fills a vital role in the implementation of competence and ensures workplace assessment is conducted in accordance with both national and international standards of Learning & Development. We strongly recommend at least one senior member of each offshore team is trained in the role of Skills Assessor.
