Brazil

Brazil is a significant global energy producer and for many years the Brazilian government has endeavoured to increase their domestic oil production capabilities, and discoveries of offshore oil deposits have transformed the country into being one of the world’s top producers.

The state-controlled Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras) is the primary organisation in Brazil’s oil sector activities with Royal Dutch Shell being the first private company to undertake commercial oil development in 2003 in the Campos Basin.

Today, major international players in the global energy industries are present in Brazil including Chevron, Repsol, BP, Anadarko and El Paso.

As of 2018, renewable energy accounted for 79% of the domestically produced electricity used in Brazil, with hydroelectricity accounting for 65% of its electricity. The Brazilian government plans to expand the share of renewable energy, with wind generated energy in particular having great potential during the dry season when low rainfall may have a detrimental impact hydroelectric capacity.

For organisations looking to capitalise on the opportunities of offshore and renewable anergy production requires teams who are appropraitely trained with the necessary skills and certified competent in actual work situations.
