A Skills Assessor plays an integral part in the continuous professional development of personnel working in the highly specialised and safety critical roles in the diverse maritime industries that MTCS support.
Not only being occupationally competent in their area/activity of expertise, but the role of a Skills Assessor is also critical in the upholding of industry standards by which candidates are assessed and their competence certified.
To be completely clear, Skills Assessors enable the success of the MTCS Competence Certification programme.
Competence can be defined as having a “combination of knowledge, skills, and experience, and these must be accurately ‘measured’ to ensure candidates satisfy the criteria to be deemed competent”.
Throughout an MTCS Competence Programme, candidates are assessed on their knowledge and understanding of concepts, their ability to perform tasks safely and efficiently, and within acceptable time scales.
The responsibility of assessment naturally falls to onsite Skills Assessors who MTCS rely upon for their observations and critical judgement; they are our ‘eyes and ears’ offshore, and we cannot express enough how much we appreciate Skills Assessors.
The Skills Assessor has a vital role in the implementation of competence, and it is strongly recommended that at least one senior member of the offshore team is qualified in this discipline.
Along with highlighting the importance of their role in our competence verification process and, at the same time, express our appreciation, we’d also like to know how we can better help Skills Assessors.
As part of the ongoing review and improvement of our organisation and the services we provide, we’re inviting feedback from Skills Assessors working in the maritime, oil & gas and renewables industries, both offshore and on-shore.
If you are a Skills Assessor, we would like you to provide us with your insight and opinions on the type of support you feel would be helpful whilst undertaking your work.
We have created a short online questionnaire which should only take a few minutes to complete, and which can be found by clicking on the link below:
Please be assured that the information you provide will remain completely confidential and will not affect your position as a Skills Assessor in any way.
What questions will be asked?
This questionnaire has been created to help us improve your experience of being an MTCS Assessor, and our overall Assessment Process.
The survey comprises just 12 questions and will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.
Some questions ask you to make a selection from a few options, whereas others ask for you to elaborate a little further, based on your experience of being a Skills Assessor.
