MTCS has updated the competence documents for the Pilot Technician Grade II Grade Assessment. If you are working towards this grade, you need to check that you are holding the latest versions before you begin. This short guide explains what you need to do and how to download the correct documents from your MTCS Online account.
What is the Pilot Technician Grade II Grade Assessment?
The Pilot Technician Grade II Grade Assessment is the route MTCS uses to certify competence for this ROV role. ROV stands for remotely operated vehicle, the equipment used to carry out work underwater without putting a diver in the water.
Grade Assessment, or GA, is one of the individual certification routes MTCS offers. It assesses your competence against a defined set of requirements. For Pilot Technician Grade II, there are four competences you need to evidence, and each one has its own document.
What do I need to do?
MTCS has updated the competence documents for this grade, so the copies you already hold may no longer be current. Please make sure you have the most up to date document for each of the four competences before you start your Grade Assessment.
Using the latest versions keeps everything accurate for you and your assessor, and it helps avoid hold-ups caused by out of date paperwork.
How do I download the latest competence documents?
The most up to date competence documents for any Grade Assessment are held in your MTCS Online account. Follow these steps:
- Log in to your MTCS Online account.
- From your Dashboard, go to Guidance Documents, then Grade Assessment (GA) Documentation.
- Open the Organogram and select the ROV Organogram.
- Select Pilot Technician Grade II.
- Download all the required documents for your four competences.
That is everything you need to prepare against the current requirements.
Is this update for Individual Competence Assessment as well?
No. This applies to the Grade Assessment route only. If you are following a different route, this document update does not affect you.
Why keeping your documents up to date matters
MTCS is a member company of IMCA, the International Marine Contractors Association (imca-int.com), and our certification is built on robust, independently verified standards. Working from the current documents means you prepare and evidence your competence against the right requirements, which protects the value of your certificate for you and your employer.
If you are unsure whether you are looking at the latest version, checking your MTCS Online account is always the quickest way to confirm.
