Understanding Feedback in Your MTCS Grade Assessment
The Grade Assessment process relies on clear communication between you and your Assessor. Feedback helps you understand your progress, know what to improve, and demonstrate competence across a suitable range of tasks. This guide explains the types of feedback you will receive, what to expect, and how your own comments contribute to the final verification.
Regular Feedback Throughout the Assessment
During your assessment, you should receive regular feedback from your Assessor as part of the ongoing review of your performance. Some of this feedback will be brief and informal. It may focus on your attitude, work approach, or general conduct during tasks.
You will also receive more formal and structured feedback. This type of feedback relates to specific activities and is designed to support your development. It should be constructive and help you understand what is required to meet the competence criteria.
What Formal Feedback Looks Like
Formal feedback is delivered by your Assessor in the workplace, usually on a one-to-one basis. It often takes place at the end of your trip or after a significant activity you have completed. This discussion should include:
-
What you performed well.
-
Areas where improvement is needed.
-
Alternative ways to complete the task, which may be linked to contractual requirements.
The formal feedback section is where you will see the assessment decision. This is where you find out whether your Assessor has deemed you competent in the activity you have been assessed on.
The Candidate Comments Section
At the bottom of your feedback paperwork, you will find a space for your own comments. This is your opportunity to reflect and provide honest feedback about your experience. Consider the following questions:
-
Were you prepared for your Grade Assessment?
-
Were you given clear opportunities to demonstrate your skills?
-
How did you find the assessment process?
It is important to ensure your paperwork is dated and that your Assessor’s name is clearly recorded. This helps maintain traceability during the final verification stage.
At this point, it is also worth confirming that your Assessor Sign Off form has been signed and dated. This ensures that your Grade Assessment paperwork is valid when submitted.
Feedback from MTCS Verifiers
Feedback from MTCS is provided separately. You will receive this once your evidence has been reviewed by our Verification team. Their focus is on confirming that your Grade Assessment has covered all required criteria over a broad enough range of activities.
Verification begins once all your evidence has been submitted. In most cases, you should receive MTCS feedback within ten working days. It may take slightly longer if Verifiers are waiting to receive information from your Assessor or Witnesses.
